Softphone Basics

What are the main areas of the softphone?

The softphone includes six main areas:

  • Dialpad: Place calls
  • History: View recent calls
  • Quick Dial: Access saved favorites
  • Contacts: Search and manage contacts
  • Messaging: Send and receive text messages
  • Toolbox: Access voicemail, recordings, and settings

On mobile, these appear as tabs. On desktop, they appear in a sidebar.

How do I make a call?

You can place a call in two ways:

Using the Dialpad:

  • Enter a phone number or extension
  • Tap the green call button

Using Contacts or Quick Dial:

  • Select a contact
  • Tap the phone icon next to their name
How do I answer an incoming call?

When a call comes in, the incoming call screen will appear.

  • Tap Answer to connect the call
  • Tap Decline to send the caller to voicemail

What can I do while on a call?

While on a call, you’ll see several controls:

  • Keypad: Enter digits for menus, extensions, or PINs
  • Hold: Place the caller on hold. Tap again to resume
  • Add Call: Start a second call while the first is on hold
  • Transfer: Send the call to another person
  • Attended Transfer: Speak with the recipient before completing the transfer
What’s the difference between Transfer and Attended Transfer?
  • Transfer (Unattended): Sends the caller directly to the recipient without speaking to them first
  • Attended Transfer: Connects you to the recipient first so you can speak with them before completing the transfer

Use attended transfer when the recipient needs context. Use standard transfer when the handoff is straightforward.

How do I transfer a call?

You can transfer a call in two ways:

Unattended transfer:

  • While on the call, tap Transfer
  • Enter the number or select a contact
  • Tap the call button to complete

Attended transfer:

  • Tap Attended Transfer
  • Enter the number and speak with the recipient
  • Complete the transfer after your conversation
How do I transfer a call directly to someone’s voicemail?
  • While on a call, tap Transfer
  • Dial * followed by the extension (example: *1001)
  • Tap Transfer again

The caller will be sent directly to that user’s voicemail without ringing their phone.

How do I sync my Google or Office 365 contacts?
